Project Kinship
Since 2018, the Brea Education Foundation has proudly funded Project Kinship, a restorative practices program currently and previously at Brea Olinda High School, Brea Canyon High School, Brea Junior High School, Arovista Elementary School, and Laurel Elementary School. Based on Restorative Justice principles, this approach complements the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) model, addressing school climate and student needs.
Restorative practices serve as an evidence-based alternative to suspension or expulsion, helping students develop social-emotional skills, repair harm, and improve school safety. Project Kinship provides student intervention, paraprofessional counseling, family support, home visits, case management, mediation, and restorative circles focused on arts and healing, substance abuse (Seeking Safety), leadership, and women’s empowerment.
Stack-Waggener Scholarship in Math and Science
The Brea Education Foundation administers and annually awards the Stack-Waggener Scholarship in Math and Science, established by Gerry Stack (BOHS '41) and Ruby June (Ferree) Stack (BOHS '42) in honor of Alice (Fritsch) Waggener, who had a profound effect on their lives.
The Stack-Waggener Scholarship in Math and Science provides merit-based student aid to students graduating from Brea Olinda High School pursuing degrees in Math, Physics, Computer Sciences, or Engineering at Fullerton College or a four-year university.
